What STC website section is linked to which?
Posted: Tuesday, January 23, 2007 9:47 AM (PST)
Still grappling with what section is linked to which on the website.

My understanding and memory is that the item (about the psalter) which comes up under social from the top list of topics was put there by you I think.

If this is the case there isn't a dedicated social board (eg - on the forum) and the only way on to the social list is if you put items there.

I think however that if I put something on the general board under the heading social it may get picked up.

After all this rambling a question - should we have a separate social board in the forum which would notify people that there is a new posting?

PS this may all be a load of tosh if so apologies and I will try to explain later.

Regards, Roger.

Roger - q not tosh at all.

Currently there isn't a dedicated 'social' forum board.

The way to get things (e.g. forum posts or events) on the 'social' topic list is to add them to the relevant section (forum > general > new post or calendar > new event) and tag them with the 'social' topic.

So, yes, you are correct and you have answered your own question in para 4.

Separate forum social board - we can. It has it merits & weakness i.e. allows notification subscription to 'social' forum board only, but it also means duplicating a topic.

In the meantime all the social items I have seen so far have been Event items, so should be placed in the calendar section.

However a good social forum Thread might be 'Stag or Psalter: any preferences?'

Hope this helps. Cheers, Neil

I came to the same conclusion eventually whilst looking at the current setup.

The only advantage of the forum social board is a direct comment on the thread which you do not get going through the social tab at the top of the page (do these tabs have an "official" name?).

I think this is something that will come out "in the wash" and we can leave it to develop for a while.

Ah, was just about to ask about this myself. Sorry for posting the april friday night drink in a different forum to Februarys and Januarys, you (Roger) used the general one and I went for 'Unoffical training events'... I think it good to be consistent so sorry for changing things unwittingly.... Regards IanB

Guys, on the consistency thing well er, um, ideally yes. But this does illustrate the benfits of using the Topics. As if I click the topic 'Social' I see the related 1st friday posts from both the General & Unofficial Trainig Events boards anyway! So a + for Topics, but also a + for consistently using a given forum board.

However, the main thing I like right now is simply that both of you are contributing content! FANTASTIC - keep it up

Cheers, Neil
