Peter Moorhead

Posted by on Tuesday, July 15, 2008 (PST)

Passing away of Peter Moorhead

Sadly I have to pass on news that Peter Moorhead has died. Peter was a founder, and the first chairperson of STC. Peter and Jean (his wife) ran the club's meetings with comittment and in a decisive way back in the early days. In those days meetings were open to all comers (sometimes not even club members) and could get quite lively at times. Peter was quietly spoken but could always meet the challenge firmly but with humour.

Probably my fondest memory of Peter is when lane counting at the Hope Valley Triathlon he was accused by the late Ron Shepherd of miscounting. Peter looked down at his clipboard and then at Ron waist deep in the cold water and told him that he'd two more lengths to go. Ron refuted this. Calmly and after a very long pause Peter said "Ron, this argument's in your own time and you've still got 2 lengths to do!"

Many of the old timers like me will miss Peter and I'm sure the club would want to pass on it's condolences to his family.
