The first race in the Westfield Aquathon 2007/8 series will take place on Nov 9th at the new Westfield school venue. Cheers, and thanks for all their hard work & effort, to those outgoing members of the STC committee.
Cheers to all those who have put in their time and effort to make sure the Westfield could continue, and to those who helped to officiate Westfield 2006-III including the marshalls who made sure all competitors, junior and senior could compete safely. Racing at this venue will only get better. Diary dates: The next race in the series takes place on the 11th March and final one is on April 8th.
Cheers to Dave Harris, Roger Kenyon, Matt Norris, Bob Pringle & Maggie Watkins who have successfully completed the 'Introduction to STC Web Authoring' workshop. Look forward to seeing all your contributions and thanks for your support & feedback. Cheers! Check out a companion technical self-help forum board. C u later!
Cheers, from a personal (Webmaster) point of view, to outgoing chairperson Roger Kenyon for his patience up to now in the development of this 2007 STC website - we're nearly there Roger!
Jeers to all drug cheats in sport. Road cycling's currently seems to be a particular mess and our own GB Tri athlete, Tim Don has fallen foul of drugs-in-sport through, arguably, avoidable circumstances around out-of-competition drug testing. Com'on Tim, BTA, BOA, IOC, bah.
Cheers 'n' Jeers maintained by Webmaster. Cheers 'n' Jeers suggestions positively welcomed by email.
2007/8 Winter Training Programme
STC’s winter training programme is now in full swing. Coordinated by Bob Pringle, here's the overview...
Run | Swim | Bike | The Weekend
Run
Following a run assessment, all athletes are placed in ability groups at Tuesday’s track session. The running drills, to improve running technique, are incorporated into the warm up. Then we do a few sprints and a main set differentiated for each running group. So whether it is camaraderie or competition you want, you will find it here.
Swim
We offer two swim sessions a week. At Pond’s Forge on a Wednesday evening, swimmers are again organised into ability groups with a swim set targeted at each group. Again, the athlete can choose his/her exertion level, moving up or down a lane if it is a good or a bad day! Saturday’s session at Graves targets technique. At this session a minimum of 3 coaches help the swimmers to identify and address areas of weakness as they progress through a tailored drill set. Video analysis is also used providing instant feedback to the swimmer.
Bike
Thursday’s turbo session at St Oswald’s Scout hut has to be experienced to be believed! Working to heart rate and cadence, all triathletes work as hard as they can as they follow a varied and challenging set. If exertion is measured by visible sweat loss then this is the hardest session of the week. The club has 3 turbo trainers for hire. Book early.
The Weekend
The Weekend! We organise a long run on Saturday (8.30 am Hunters Bar) and a long bike on Sunday (9 am Hathersage). Again we cater for all ability levels so while the (should be) committed triathletes training for Ironman build up the miles, the rest of us can head for coffee or get on with our day!
So, at each session there is something for everyone. Training in a group is a lot easier than training alone and STC triathletes are approachable and friendly. Why don’t you join us?
