30 April 2018 – GYKO Trunce Series: Nicola Heaton and Sallyann Smith ran in the Get Your Kit On offroad run series at Oxspring.
25 April 2018 – SYCAA Road League Round #3: Held at Worsborough, the next instalment of the Road League saw Kay Guccione, Sarah Harrison (3rd in Category), Liam Walker (4th in Category), Ed Guccione and Roger Wilde all in action. Results can be found on the SYCAA Road League News page.
22 April 2018 – Stockton Duathlon: Rob ‘I love a good Duathlon’ Pearson was up against fellow STC member Luke Howdle in what looks from the results to be a cracking race between them. Rob edged it, winning his Age Group in 02:18:30 with Luke shortly behind in 02:18:49. Congratulations to you both.
22 April 2018 – London Marathon: Paul Shipley won the STC place at our November AGM and did the club proud, dipping under the magic 4 hour mark in 03:58:07. Well done Paul! Having not taken part myself I still maintain my 100% record in beating Mo Farah. Granted in 2013 when I ran, Mo pulled out halfway. But still, I’m calling that a win.
22 April 2018 – Carsington Duathlon: Yvonne Twelvetree stormed her Age Group at the 5km/24km/5km Duathlon in 01:54:33. Not to be outdone, Nick Latimer was a brilliant 5th overall in 01:22:42. Congratulations both.
21 April 2018 – STC Easy Paced Ride
19 April 2018 – Fairholmes Duathlon #2: The second of the Fairholmes series was held on an unseasonably warm evening, with plenty of cars parked and people to navigate at the Kings Tree roundabout. Liam Walker won the event in 41:55 with Hannah K Peel first female in 46:16. Exciting pie charts ensued. Take a look at the results on the Summer Race Series page.
15 April 2018 – Brighton Marathon: Sallyann Smith ran Brighton Marathon in a cracking time of 05:12:48.
15 April 2018 – STC Pool Sprint Championship: Southwell Triathlon: The first of the 2018 Club Championship races was held at Southwell Sprint Triathlon and had a great turnout of STC members. Congratulations to our new club champions Pete Goodfellow and Hannah K Peel. Some great performances across the board, with Carl Egdell taking 2nd, Ben Anderson 3rd for the men, and Isabelle Pound taking 2nd, Helen Young 3rd for the women. Take a look at the results and race report on the Club Championship 2018: Pool Sprint news story.
15 April 2018 – Skipton Triathlon: Brett Srawley completed the Skipton Sprint Triathlon in 01:37:59. Congratulations Brett.
11 April 2018 – SYCAA Road League Round #2 (cancelled): Unfortunately fog descended on Lodge Moor and the Road League was cancelled.
08 April 2018 – Sheffield Half Marathon / Manchester Marathon: A bumper turnout of STC members ran the annual Sheffield Half Marathon, with Ed and Kay Guccione the other side of Snake Pass to run Manchester Marathon. Some brilliant results and photos, which can be found on the Sheffield Half / Manchester Full Marathon 2018 news story.
07 April 2018 – STC Group Ride
05 April 2018 – Fairholmes Duathlon #1: The first of the Fairholmes Duathlon series kicked off on a damp and chilly evening at Fairholmes Visitor Centre. Chris Joyce was first across the line in 44:32 with Hannah K Peel first female in 49:42. All the results can be found on the Summer Race Series page.
01 April 2018 – Westfield Aquathlon #4: The final Westfield Aquathlon of the series was held on Easter Sunday. Reece Allen won overall in a frankly ridiculous time of 29:20, which barely gave us enough time to scoff the Easter treats provided by our volunteers. Take a look at the Westfield Aquathlon website page for all the results.
31 March 2018 – STC GYKO Hillsborough Parkrun Volunteer: STC took over volunteering duties at the local Hillsborough Parkrun. Thanks to Vanessa Round (STC member and volunteer organiser), Nicola Heaton, Ed Guccione, Adam Newell, Sallyann Smith, Helen Young, Fiona Morgan and Addam Darnell who braved the rain to ensure the event went smoothly (or at least that we didn’t mess it up). Success, and a great morning out – can it not rain next time though?
28 March 2018 – SYCAA Road League Round #1: The first of the South Yorkshire County Athletics Association Road League 5 mile runs took place at Brodsworth near Doncaster. I’m struggling to find the results for STC members, but all the Road League news can be found on the SYCAA Road League News website.
27 March 2018 – STC Transition Talk (Sallyann Smith): The third instalment of the Transition Talk series was held with Sallyann Smith. Having taken part in iconic races as the Marathon des Sables run across the desert, Sallyann can often be found volunteering at STC events and in most of these Recent Results roundups. Take a look at the interview on the Transition Talk page.
25 March 2018 – Monsal Trail Half Marathon: Some brilliant results from STC members – Sarah Harrison finished 3rd female overall in 01:30:11 (and 1st in AG). Kate Morris only shortly behind in 4th female overall in 01:30:39 (and 1st in AG). Sallyann Smith finished 6th in AG in 02:10:16. Cracking times everyone, congratulations.
24 March 2018 – Coniston 14: Adam Newell was racing again, this time at the Coniston 14 Road Run finishing in 01:48:04 in 216th place, a great time following on from the two Half Marathon races during February.
17 March 2018 – Grindleford Gallop: Sallyann Smith took on the local 34km route through the hills of the Peak District, finishing in 06:00:31 in 355th place.
10 March 2018 – STC Easy Paced Group Ride
04 March 2018 – Westfield Aquathlon #3 (cancelled): Sadly due to the adverse weather (it snowed a lot in March) the third in the Westfield Aquathlon series was cancelled for safety reasons.
02 March 2018 – Hathersage Hilly Charity Places: Following on from Hathersage Hilly entries going live on 07 February 2018, the 02 March 2018 saw the announcement of the two charities who would be awarded a place each – voted for by members of Sheffield Triathlon Club. The winners were The Cathedral Archer Project and Sheffield Childrens Hospital. Stay tuned to the Hathersage Hilly section of the website for further updates.
25 February 2018 – Liversedge Half Marathon: Adam Newell again ran a Half Marathon (and only a week after Oulton) in an excellent time of 01:40:31.
18 February 2018 – Oulton Half Marathon: It must be nearly race season – there are races to talk about! Adam Newell ran Oulton Half Marathon in a great time of 01:43:22.
17 February 2018 – STC Easy Paced Group Ride: The next of our easier paced group rides had some more new faces join. Hopefully the weather will be kinder in future though, will it stop raining please? Take a look at the Cycling Training page for details of how to get involved.
15 February 2018 – STC Transition Talk (Hannah Peel): The second instalment of the STC Transition Talk series was held with Hannah Peel, not to be confused with the other Hannah Peel, who is in fact a completely different Hannah Peel. There are now two of them. Be afraid. Check out this great chat with one of our newest members on the Transition Talk page.
07 February 2018 – Hathersage Hilly Entries Open: HH entries went live and had a fantastic response based on the reputation of the event built up over a number of years. Our thanks to the previous Committee for their hard work, and to Jim Lafferty for his work to ensure the race is held in 2018. Looking forward to Sunday 22 July 2018 already.
04 February 2018 – Westfield Aquathlon #2: The second of the Westfield Aquathlon Series 2018 was won outright by Sarah Harrison in 34:08, with Hannah Peel taking second in 34:26. All the results can be found on the Westfield Aquathlon 2018 page.
03 February 2018 – STC Group Ride: The next instalment of our ‘first Saturday’ rides. These will continue throughout 2018 on the first Saturday of each month. Take a look at the Cycling Training page, or on Facebook closer to the time for all the details and who is heading out.
28 January 2018 – GYKO Longshaw 10km: The next in the Get Your Kit On 2018 series of events was the Longshaw 10km run in the surroundings of the Longshaw Estate. A brilliant monthly event, consisting of 2 x 5km laps of trials and technical offroad sections, suitable for all abilities. Unfortunately I made the mistake of misjudging the conditions and opted for elastic laces in my shoes – cue a couple of mid race hops back to fetch my missing footwear. An excellent event, well recommended and a great STC turnout on a chilly morning.
27 January 2018 – Northern XC: The Northern Athletics Cross Country Championships held at Harewood House provided a return to ‘proper cross country’ conditions somewhat missing from the Winter XC series in 2017. Sheffield Triathlon Club were represented in the Senior Races by Helen Elmore (90th), Kirsty Bryan Jones (179th), Sallyann Smith (415th) for the Women and Simon Patton (263rd), Matt Reed (344th) for the Men. Congratulations to all.
27 January 2018 – STC Easy Paced Group Ride: The first of the STC group rides aimed at less confident cyclists, or just those who fancy an easier ride. The weather wasn’t kind, but Paula Edwards and Nicola Heaton braved the conditions with a few hardy others, with the obligatory Café stop afterwards. Take a look at the Cycling Training page for more details of how to get involved.
26 January 2018 – Meet and Greet: The first Meet and Greet event of the year saw plenty of new faces and interest in the club. It was great to see, and great to catch up with existing members during the off season.
23 January 2018 – STC Transition Talk (Bing Jones): The interview series (which aims to find out a bit more about one of our members) kicked off with Bing Jones. Read all about his story on the Transition Talk page.
13 January 2018 – Junior Presentation: Take a look at the news story for all the results and photos from the Junior Presentation afternoon on the Junior Presentation Results and Photos page.
13 January 2018 – GYKO Sheffield Castle Parkrun: The first of our Get Your Kit On 2018 events was Sheffield Castle Parkrun. You basically run down a big hill, then back up again and repeat, almost as if you’ve forgotten something from the first time (like how big that hill is). STC were well represented, with Will Bealby and Glen Mailer taking 2nd and 3rd respectively. Take a look at the results on the Sheffield Castle Parkrun results page.
12 January 2018 – Talkin’ Tri with Dr David Claxton: Despite a last minute venue change, the night was a great success with Dr David Claxton from Sheffield Hallam University giving up his time to share his insights, with most sticking around for the curry afterwards.
07 January 2018 – Westfield Aquathlon #1: The first of the Westfield Aquathlon Series kicked off in style, with a great turnout of Senior and Junior members. The Senior race was won by Richard Price from Manvers in 30:44, with Tom Shaw of STC a close second in 32:21.
01 January 2018 – New Years Day: What better way to kick off 2018 than with a Parkrun? How about two Parkruns? The only day of the year you can squeeze in two saw members run at Graves Parkrun then follow up with Hillsborough or Poolsbrook. Other members were at Hathersage Pool for the New Year’s Day swim. Happy New Year!
